The aim of this research has been on the development of a research method and construction of the database as its resource ; in the form of DVD. The focus of the research was placed on the following points ;
1. what kind of data?
2. How should they be presented?
3.Why do I choose that way?
Also as a shared goal in designing the database among the research members we had following concepts ;
1. The data base will allow space for the viewers' free interpretation.
2. The data base will enable viewers to see the process of the change of teaching and teacher beliefs.
The above concepts tells that this data base is not collection of model teachings or that based upon reductionist approach, but rather a good source of discussion to deepen understanding on teaching through free interpretation. Thus, members looked for theoretical background of each data base in different thoughts and theories. Such thoughts and theories are as follows: Socio-cultural theory, Activity theory, Exploratory practice and Experientialism.
The whole database contributed by five members is compiled into one piece of DVD by Nomura. Viewers will be surprised at the versatility of this database. Some are by pre-service teachers, some collaboration of an ALT and a Japanese teacher, some are from Korea, some are interviews to teachers by a researcher and others are teachers' collaborative session after the class. There will be no single fixed interpretation or analysis possible. In other words, this database proposes versatile styles of data forms in analyzing teaching and offers space for discussion. It will be more than our pleasure if teachers and researchers will be able to share thoughts on teaching through this video DVD.
